EuroMillions - Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
Two Britons claim their winning share of the EuroMillions £91 million jackpot
The lucky duo scooped £45,570,835 each when their numbers came up in Friday's EuroMillions draw. Both tickets were bought in the UK, but organisers Camelot said no further information about the tickets or the potential winners would be released until the prizes had been paid out.
The winning numbers were 11, 19, 34, 43 and 45, with five and nine the lucky star numbers.
A spokesman said their names would remain secret until the tickets had been checked. He added: "We're looking forward to welcoming these ticket-holders to our millionaires' club."
If the ticket-holders are individuals, rather than syndicates, they will be catapulted into the list of the nation's richest people. Their winnings would accordingly put them in the same league as DJ Chris Evans, Formula One's David Coulthard and showbiz legend Sir Cliff Richard and earn them a place on the Sunday Times ‘Rich List’.
The list's compiler, Philip Beresford, said it would be the first time a British lottery winner had appeared on it. "It's extraordinary that, in the years we've had the lottery, we haven't had anyone at this level," he told Sky News.
There are already 2,300 lottery millionaires in Britain following the launch of the National Lottery 15 years ago.
Previous winners of big lottery prizes have offered their congratulations and advice to the latest additions to the millionaires' club.
The UK’s previous biggest winner, Angela Kelly, who won £35.4m in 2007 – has said that "My win has enabled me to bring a great deal of happiness to my friends and family, which in turn has made me very happy. I wish the new winner the best of luck."
Mark Gardiner, who shared £22.5m with his business partner, Paul Madison, in June 1995, told the winner to "enjoy yourself, do the one thing you have always wanted to do or buy, treat yourself with an impulse purchase and then take two steps back to let it all sink in". "Really enjoy your win and don't let anyone put pressure on you," he said. "Take the win at your own pace."
The jackpots would be the highest paid in Britain, although larger amounts have been won elsewhere in Europe.
The EuroMillions draw runs in nine European countries, the others being Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxemburg, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
