EuroMillions win for Gloucestershire couple

British couple scoop £56m lottery prize with EuroMillions draw

‘White van man’ Nigel Page, 43, and his partner Justine Laycock, 41, from Cirencester, Gloucestershire, won £56m in Friday's EuroMillions draw earning themselves a place in history for winning Britain’s biggest ever lottery jackpot.

It is the fourth time in three months that a British winner has scooped more than £25m in the EuroMillions draw. The couple are now top of the National Lottery Rich List ahead of Les Scadding and his wife Sam from south Wales, and a syndicate of seven from Liverpool. The Scaddings and the syndicate banked £45.5 million each in November last year.

The total £112m jackpot was split with another ticket, bought in Spain.
Talking about the win at a press conference in Bath, Ms Laycock said: "It's an amazing amount of money. We could never have wished for this."

Mr Page had only recently started playing online and had already won £55 earlier in the week in Wednesday's Lotto draw. It was destined to be his lucky week.
He said: "I'd already checked my national lottery account and had seen I'd won £55 when I decided to buy two Lucky Dips for the big EuroMillions jackpot on Friday. "I didn't think about it again until Saturday morning when I was watching the news with my daughter and saw there was one UK winner who shared the jackpot with a ticket in Spain. "I remember even joking it might be me. I logged on to my account and saw the win for £55 in my account and just below it was the £56 million EuroMillions competition prize.

Mr Page, who runs a property maintenance business, said when he discovered the win he "started shaking and couldn't speak". After realising the win the couple and their children went to the nearby Waitrose café whilst they awaited the arrival of a representative from Camelot.

The family do not intend to be over flamboyant with their initial purchases – instead they plan to buy a new, larger house, new cars and a holiday or two.
Ms Laycock said: "It would be lovely to get a five or six bedroom house with a pool and lots of space but we really enjoy the area we live in now so we won't move far.
"We'd also like to buy somewhere abroad where we can go on holiday but it'll have to be in the school holidays."

Mr Page currently drives a white van and was due to make the last payment on it next month. He now plans to swap it for a Range Rover Sport or a BMW X5.
Ms Laycock, who works for a local estate agents, said she had already told her boss she was not going back to work. She said: "Bless him, he's devastated."
She added: "We've got a lovely long list of people we're going to help and make their lives so much more comfortable.

"We've got this fantastic opportunity and we're going to utilise it 100%."
The couple, both divorcees, have three children from previous relationships - Mr Page's daughter Ella, 12, and Ms Laycock's son and daughter, Jacob, 11, and Georgia, 15.

Mr Page said the children have also taken a level-headed approach towards the win. "They haven't asked for much," he said. The youngsters have joked about getting a tarantula and Ella has asked for a Shetland pony.
Across Europe, the record EuroMillions win is £113m by a single ticket-holder from Spain in May last year.

EuroMillions is played in nine countries - the UK, France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Irish Republic, Portugal and Switzerland.

Friday’s winning numbers were: 01, 05, 18, 38, 45 with Lucky Stars 04 and 06.
