Converse launches 1HUND(RED) artist's showcase
2008 marks the 100th anniversary year of the global footwear brand Converse. The company has been successful in maintaining its credibility as a fashion 'must have' and is celebrating by launching a special artist's showcase of design.
As part of Converse's (PRODUCT) RED partnership the 1HUND(RED) campaign has involved one hundred artists from around the world in order to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.
The artists have been commissioned to design an iconic Converse shoe, which will then be available for purchase by the public. Each shoe is intended to represent each artist's unique commentary on the HIV/Aids virus and it's effect on the worldwide population. As with all Converse Prodct RED shoes, up to 15% of the net retail sales goes directly to the Global Fund, to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.
Notable artists that have given their names to this venture include Ben Drury, Precious McBane and David Rainbird, all shoes from 1HUND(RED) Artists will also include iconic Converse (PRODUCT) RED detailing, including the RED logo inscribed on the insole of the shoe and red eyelets for the laces.
There are also new designs from Basso & Brooke, Gary Hume, Umbereen Querishi and Camilla Engman. The new designs will be released over the next twelve months and will be available for purchase over the course of 2008.
It is an honourable initiative and the venture will go a long way to raise awareness and promote the global campaign to fight AIDS, we hope it is a complete success.
