Eye Jewellery
Moved to tears by the latest fashion accessory
The latest bizarre fashion accessory is going to have ophthalmologists everywhere groaning with dismay. Dutch designer Eric Klarenbeek has fashioned eye jewellery that gives hangs literally from the eye itself via a wire attached to a contact lens. The jewellery, including items such as crystals or flowers, hangs beneath the eye, and is fastened to the lens by medical wire. It makes the wearer look as if they are crying with joy or pain? We can only speculate.
Eric Klarenbeek, 29, the Dutch designer, said ¨People who have worn my eye jewellery are amazed at its comfort. You cannot feel the wire dangling, it doesn't affect your sight and the lens moves along gently with your eyeball, even while blinking.¨ The idea, which apparently started out as an experiment, was put into production after Klarenbeek got positive feedback from wearers.
A lens and accessory set will cost about £200. But even the most avant-garde amongst us may be a little concerned at the thought of having a wire in such close proximity to the eye.
We will have to wait and see whether this becomes a popular accessory, but if you, like me, think this is all totally barmy, blink now.
