The comfort of summer’s kitten heels and ballet pumps is quickly becoming a distant memory, what we are now seeing on the runways and on the feet of the famous are towering architectural masterpieces. This is not the season to play it safe, forget the dresses and look to the floor. Here are some of the best:

Madonna has made it clear that although she may have divorced husband Guy Ritchie she is certainly not ‘finished’ with fashion. The material girl was photographed stepping out in a pair of Chanel ¨Miami Vice¨ pistol, super-high heels to the screening of her directorial debut of ¨Filth and Wisdom¨. These ¨killer¨ heels (excuse the pun) are straight from the catwalk collection of Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Cruise 2009, and are designed and crafted by Laurence Dacade.

Victoria Beckham, forever the fashion editor’s darling, whilst promoting the Beckham’s new Signature fragrance collection, wore a fantastical pair of heels with no heels! The gravity defying Antonio Beradi boots cost a cool $6,000, they look great but it begs the question – how does she walk in them?!

Scherer Gonzales Spring 2009 - These beautiful shoes are pieces of art. Botanically inspired masterpieces by the German designing duo were delicately tied to the feet of models that tiptoed tentatively through Lucite encased orchids and tulips in this runway show in Berlin.

Well the jury is out on this one. Yes, these shoes are showstoppers, but they are definitely not practical - but when has high fashion ever been sensible!
